Cambodian Minister of Information H.E Mr. Khieu Kanharith says UN Human Rights Office in Cambodia Must be closed down and Human Rights officer Mr. Peschoux replaced.

The Cambodian Information Minister told AKP Thursday late afternoon that the suggestion was made during the official talk between Cambodian Prime Minsiter Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E Mr. Ban Ki-moon earlier in the morning.

“It is not necessary to have the human rights office here because the Cambodian government is on the right track of democracy”, the minster said and added “If human rights, freedom of expression were not taken care of here, Cambodia would have been denied or objected to join any peace-keeping operations that this nation managed to make in the past ”.

H.E Mr. Khieu Kanharith quoted Samdech Techo Hun Sen as saying: “ Mr. Peschoux is not working on human rights issue with the Cambodian government but he is the spokesperson of the opposition in Cambodia”

“Concerning the replacement of UN human right officer in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian Prime Minister said that Mr. Peschoux was trying, in the past, to sneak the S21 prison chief, Duch, out of the country. He doesn't deserve this post', said H.E Mr Khieu Kanharith.(ends)
