Cambodia PM Calls for Further Improvement of Food Security

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia has called for ASEAN ministers of
agriculture to jointly conduct in-dept study to improve and develop agricultural productivity and timely share agriculture-related technology with farmers.
In his welcome speech at the 32nd ASEAN Ministers' Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry last Saturday, the Cambodian premier said “Cambodia sees another step forward with confidence and determination, as the nation's institutional capacity and ownership are being consolidated”.

"It is very true that food security still remains a sensitive issue, which requires every country to work hard in order to find a solution. But this concern is also a new opportunity for some countries in the region that have high potentials in agriculture sector," he said.

Cambodia has been preparing and hosting a series of meetings, the 32nd ASEAN Ministers' Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry and the 10th meeting of ASEAN Ministers Plus their three dialogue partners to meet and discuss issues related to agriculture and forestry for the schedule between October 20 through 26, 2010.

ASEAN comprises of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and its plus three includes China, South Korea and Japan.(ends)
