Child Death Sees Decrease

AKP: Phnom Penh October 26, 2005
H.E. Morm Bunheng, Secretary of State at the ministry of Health, said that the rate of children’s death decreased from 93 to 66 out of 1000 lives and the death rate of those under 5 from 124 to 83 out of 1000 births.

He made the comment during the opening ceremony of the national seminar on Mother and Child Healthcare held in Phnom Penh October 24, 2005 .
The Secretary of State also attributed the decreased death rate of infants the efforts by the government together various development partners in support of child care program.
“ Care for mother’s health will only contribute to better health of children”, he pointed out,“Mother and child care is regarded as first priority”.
In addition to promoting health care for mother and child the Ministry of Health has also formulated a strategic plan for reproductive health. It is also committed to implementing 5 key-work reforms such as establishing service quality, human resource development, changing behavior, communicating healthcare, financing and institution development.
