Phnom Penh, October 21, 2010 AKP --

Despite being affected by drought in early rainy season, rice production had been achieved as planned, said Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Chan Sarun early this week.

Speaking at the 58th Meeting of Board of Directors of Southeast Asian Agriculture Centre in Phnom Penh Monday, Chan Sarun said agriculture is one of the priority areas which Cambodia’s economy relies on.

Cambodia has established the national agriculture policy especially to increase rice production for export to help promote the economic growth.

He said that the meeting was important for the agriculture training and research in Southeast Asia, especially for improving the quality of agriculture production for exportation.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said at a graduation ceremony in Phnom Penh Monday he was confident in the rice production quantity in the coming harvest season as rice growing was generally good, exceeding the annual plan by 4% or 10,000 ha. over the target.--AKP
